Ventilation
Ventilation is the key to
good indoor air quality. Construction of new homes over the past 20
years has been focused around improving energy performance.
Ventilation has been focused around an exhaust strategy to keep
humidity from building up in your home. Air leaks in wherever it
can find a hole. You have no control over the air coming in and
certainly no ability to recover heat or filter it.
The solution is a whole home ventilation system. This technology
was invented in Canada because of our cold climate.
Energy and Heat Recovery Ventilators (ERVs and HRVs)
Heat Recovery Ventilators, or HRVs exhaust stale air from your
home and bring in fresh air from the outside. In the process they
transfer the heat from the air going out to the air coming in.
Using heat exchangers, HRVs can recapture 60%-80% of the energy
from the conditioned air that would otherwise have been lost
through an exhaust only strategy.
Energy Recovery Ventilators, or ERVs operate in a similar
fashion to an HRV but keep humidity in the home in the winter and
out in the summer. This saves energy and reduces the load on your
air conditioner in the summer. An ERV is a key factor in keeping
indoor humidity within a good range.
An HRV or ERV can have the incoming air brought through a whole
home HEPA filter to ensure you have the ultimate in clean air in
your home.
We are proud to offer products by Canadian manufacturers, Venmar
and vanEE. They supply a full range of products for every
configuration and price range. Their commitment to quality,
reliability and customer care is second to none.
Ventilation Maintenance
A Heat Recovery Ventilator or an Energy Recovery Ventilator
needs regular maintenance like any other piece of mechanical
equipment. Filters and heat exchanger cores need to be cleaned and
the system needs to be balanced to maximize heat recovery
efficiency.
